Turquoise beads
The color of Turquoise beads varies from sky blue, blue-green to yellow, brown and black. Turquoise has enormous appeal to many people precisely because of its beautiful, distinctive colours. Turquoise beads are now widely used for contemporary jewelry. Consider, for example, the trendy Ibiza style jewelry. However, Turquoise beads are certainly not only used in trendy jewelry. Combined with, for example, red coral and Tibetan silver, they get a decent look again.
Edit/stabilize or not
Turquoise can be found in a number of places around the world. For example in Arizona and China. Here you will find the real deep turquoise color. Because the stone is becoming increasingly rare, the Turquoise is also becoming more and more valuable. In addition, only 3 to 5% of all Turquoise is suitable for grinding into a bead without processing. So the cream of the crop. And that also comes with a hefty price tag. The raw Turquoise beads are quite soft and sometimes porous. As a result, unprocessed Turquoise beads break easily and (skin) fats and the like are absorbed into them. This causes the Turquoise to discolour and the beads to slowly darken. Processed Turquoise beads have these disadvantages much less. Moreover, the processed beads are much more attractively priced! So because of the price and the hardness and durability, more and more people are choosing beads made of processed or stabilized Turquoise.
Imitation or not
There is often some confusion about real Turquoise beads, because there are (beautiful!) imitations. The imitation beads are often blue/greenish in color and much cheaper and less valuable. Most imitations of Turquoise beads are made from Magnesite and Howlite. Both natural stones that are colored. In our webshop you will find many types of real Turquoise beads. But we also have Howlite beads in the turquoise color. The distinction is clear. We simply call the real Turquoise beads by their Dutch written name Turquoise. The Howlite beads with a turquoise color can be found in the Howlite section.
