Zircon Beads

It is actually difficult to understand that Zircon beads are not more popular: The hardness is not inferior to that of Garnet or Tourmaline and it has many qualities: a Diamond luster, a double refractive index (so much brilliance), beautiful colors and a very reasonable price! Zircon is a shimmering, transparent stone that comes in a number of colors: yellow, brown, orange, violet, green, blue and red. Most stones are gray to reddish brown but the most sought after is the golden brown stone. Colorless Zircon is quite rare and, when cut as a gemstone, can easily be mistaken for Diamond.

There is some confusion between Zircon and Cubic Zirconia (CZ); It is often thought that Zircon is not a natural material or that Zircon and Zirconia are the same, but Cubic Zirconia is synthetic!

The name Zircon comes from the Persian zargūn, which means golden. It ended up in Dutch through Arabic and French, among other things. The word 'slang', which is used to designate light Zircons, goes back to the same Persian word. Yellow Zircon is called Hyacinth by the way.

Zircon was first scientifically described in 1783 by Abraham Gottlob Werner.

The oldest minerals found to date on Earth are Zircons from the Narryer Gneiss Terrane, Yilgarn Kraton of Western Australia with an age (time of crystallization) of 4.404 Ga (Giga Annum, a Latin abbreviation indicating age in billions of years) .

Zircon belongs to the Thai 'Order of the Nine Gemstones'.
