  • What is Kettling
Kettling is the attachment of beads to each other with the help of kettle pins
It doesn't matter what you want to make: a chain, bracelet, chain with pendants, etc, at least you have to bend eyes to attach the pins to each other. Bending the eyes is called chaining
  • What do you need to chain:
To chain you can use chain pins, head pins or iron wire And you need a small round nose pliers
The pins are available in different lengths, ranging from 15 mm to 45 mm. You can also make your own pins by buying a roll of iron wire. A pin consists of 2 eyelets, so if you want to chain with iron wire you have to bend 2 eyelets yourself
You can boiler with chain pins and head pins (see the images below)
  • Kettle pins and head pins:
You use a chain pin to thread beads and attach the pins with the eyes together, so that a chain or bracelet is created
You also use a head pin to thread beads that you want to hang on your chain. The flat side at the bottom of the head pin ensures that your beads do not fall off and you hardly see the end. That is nicer than if you used a chain pin for this.
A head pin always forms the bottom of the chained tips. I also always work with head pins with the bunches of chains I have made. You also have small head pins that you can use perfectly for this. to cut
  • How to bend beautiful eyes:

  1. You use round nose pliers and a head pin or a chain pin
  2. Slide a bead on the head pin / chain pin
  3. Cut the excess rod to about 1 cm above the bead (using a wire cutter)
  4. Grasp the end of the pin with the round nose pliers. Note which part of the round nose pliers you use: the closer to the end of the pliers (the thin point) the smaller the eye will become. The further you put the wire on the pliers (on the thick part of the pliers) the bigger the eye gets
  5. Turn your pliers so that the wire goes all the way around the curvature of the pliers. This way you always get a nice round eye
  6. Now, with the thin tip of the pliers, grab the eye briefly on the stem And bend the eye back nicely so that it will be straight on the rod And the bead will hang nicely straight under the eye So if the eye falls all the way to the left you have to bend it to the right

You now have a nice eye bent. Now to attach the pins with beads, you first have to bend the eye a little open again. Then you can attach the eye to an eye of another pin with a bead. Bend the eye again. closed You have to make sure that the eye is closed again, to prevent chained pins from slipping off each other
