- What is kettling
Kettle is the connection of beads together with the help of kettle pins
It doesn't matter what you want to make: a necklace, bracelet, necklace with pendants, etc, you have to bend the eyelets to attach the pins together. Bending the eyelets is called chain chaining. - What do you need to chain:
To chain you can use eyepins, head pins or iron wire And you need a small round nose pliers
The markers are available in different lengths, varying from 15 mm to 45 mm.You can also make markers yourself by buying a roll of iron wire.A pin consists of 2 eyelets, so if you want to chain with iron wire, you have to bend 2 eyelets yourself
Kettle you do with eyepins and head pins (see the images below)
- Kettle pins and head pins:
You use a chain pin to thread beads and to attach the pins together with the eyes, so that a necklace or bracelet is created
You also use a headpin to thread beads that you want to hang on your chain. The flat side at the bottom of the headpin ensures that your beads do not fall off and you hardly see the end. That is nicer than if you would use a eyepin for this
A headpin always forms the underside of the chained pins. Also with the bunches of chains that I have made, I always work with headpins. You also have small headpins that you can use perfectly for this. They are already good in length and you do not have to get rid of anything to cut - How do you bend pretty eyes:
- You use round nose pliers and a head pin or a chain pin for this
- Slide a bead onto the headpin / eyepin
- Cut off the excess rod to about 1 cm above the bead (using a pair of nippers)
- Grab the end of the pliers with the round nose pliers. Note which part of the round nose pliers you use: the closer to the end of the pliers (the thin tip) the smaller the eyelet will become. The further you put the wire on the pliers the thick part of the pliers) the larger the eyelet becomes
- Turn your pliers so that the wire goes all the way around the curve of the pliers. This way you always get a nice round eye
- Now use the thin tip of the pliers to briefly hold the eye on the stem And bend the eye nicely back so that it is straight on the rod And the bead will hang nicely right under the eye So if the eye falls all the way to the left , you have to bend it to the right
You have now bent a nice eye To attach the markers with beads to each other, you must first bend the eyelet a little open again Then you can attach the eye to an eye of another marker with bead Bend the eye again closed You must make sure that the eye is closed again to prevent pins that are chained together from slipping off
